Cape Town and a destination in Chile have been added to the list of spots on the 2013 Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) World Tour, great news for local windsurfers and followers of the big name pro’s.
Starting with a freestyle event in Austria on April 26, the tour takes in 12 spots and runs right up till the last session gets underway on December 6.
The final list may change, as the organisers may try to include a stage in Vietnam and perhaps a few more…
One time destination Italy has been dropped this year, and the Canary Islands will be hosting three sessions in the Summer. The Islands have long been a top spot and it’s a popular budget airline destination making it all the more affordable.
Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura provide the volcanic backdrop to the first two events, running July 9-14 and July 19-29 respectively, with the third hosted at an unnamed destination in Tenerife.
The tour should attract the sport’s best competitors across three divisions: Slalom, Wave and Freestyle.
We’ve not seen the rider line-up yet, but would expect last year’s winners, men’s Freestyle champion Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo and women’s Wave World Champion Iballa Ruano Moreno, to both make a great show of it!
Check back for updates as the tour progresses!
