eFoil surfing is surfing meets SUP! An eFoil board is like a foil board but with a tiny electric motor with a rechargeable battery that is attached just above the hydrofoil. This gives the rider the ability to glide silently and easily. eFoil and Foil surfing are the exciting new water sports that are taking the world of extreme sports by storm. If you love to surf, SUP, or wakeboard, then you will love foiling!
Can you imaging what it would be like to be able to surf in any condition, even the calmest of sea? With surf foiling you can.
From above sea level it looks like a surfboard but there is plenty going on below sea level. The Foil board glides across the water thanks to a hydrofoil below the surface that creates lift similar to the wings on an aircraft. This means that you can catch even the smallest of waves.
eFoil surfing is surfing meets SUP! An eFoil board is like a foil board but with a tiny electric motor with a rechargeable battery that is attached just above the hydrofoil. This gives the rider the ability to glide silently and easily across still waters such as lakes and rivers. An eFoil board can reach a speed of about 25mph
Glide time varies depending on the brand, but you can expect about 90 minutes out on the water. The batteries only need about 20 minutes charge time, so you can have a short break before hitting the water again.
eFoil boards are not cheap as they can range from anywhere between $4,000 and $15,000. It is worth going looking at reviews and opting for a well-known brand and not a cheap non-brand version, otherwise it can be a very costly mistake!
The two original eFoil board brands are the Flite eFoil company and Lift. Both have been ground-breaking frontiers in the sport and you can not go wrong with either brand.
Time will tell if eFoil surfing or surf foiling will be elevated into the mainstream of extreme sports, or will fade away like many fads before it. Foil surfing is certainly more cost efficient, accessible, and could be revolutionary for surfing. Of course, the main hurdle for eFoil surfing is the high cost of the boards. But, more and more companies are now offering eFoil experiences and this probably is the way forward.
