After all, when you’ve had a hard day on the mountain, in the water or on the trail, don’t you deserve a little pampering? This also works extremely well if your other half is not into activities as much as you are. As you can get adventurous while they are being looked after in luxury.

Adventure and luxury don’t always go hand in hand. But when you start looking there is a huge amount of choice. So it was tough to pick just eight adventures. We have gone for a broad range of activities from all over the world, so hopefully something will float your boat.

All of the below five star activity holidays offer the perfect combination of accommodation and adventure. But if you really want to treat yourself and experience a world of adventure, then hire a private plane to get there. Now that is luxurious.

Courchevel – Skiing and snowboarding

There’s skiing and then there are ski holidays in Courchevel. This collection of villages in the Three Valleys is arguably the most prestigious ski resort in the world. There’s a combination of traditional alpine charm and excellent skiing in the largest ski area on the planet. Plus more luxury than you can shake a ski pole at.

There’s a huge choice of five star chalet accommodation, and three of the 10 most luxurious ski chalets are located there. They come with open fires, terrace hot tubs and live in personal chefs. So, if you’re looking to ski or snowboard in style, or want to strut your stuff with the rich and famous, then Courchevel could be the place for you.

Cabarete, Dominican Republic – Surfing

Latin spirit in the Caribbean. That’s the charm of the Dominican Republic. But if you’re looking for a surf holiday with a difference, then this is a great choice. Cabarete has 300 days a year with surfable waves. It all takes place on long, clear, sandy beaches. And is backdropped by lush green mountains tumbling down into the sea.

To enjoy all this in style, why not book yourself into the Ultravioleta Boutique residence for small scale luxury? Or go big at the Beach Palace Cabarete. However you want to enjoy five star activity holidays in Cabarete, there is an option to suit you. There is also excellent windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Val Gardena, Italy: Biking and hiking

Located in Northern Italy in the town of Ortisei, the Adler Dolomiti spa hotel is the perfect place to drink in spectacular views and reinvigorate with a selection of healing spa treatments. The accommodation is of exceptional quality and the facilities are everything you would expect for the best luxury adventures. And it’s all surrounded by stunning Dolomite mountains.

Maldives – Water sports

As close as you can get to paradise. So, it’s not surprising that you are spoilt for choice of five star accommodation around the 1190 islands of the Maldives. Resort hotels such as the Conrad Rangali Island, Finolhu and Amilla Fushi offer luxury in abundance. To make the most of the white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters book yourself a chalet style accommodation on the water.

And with world class surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing, the Maldives are one of the best luxury adventures in the world.

Kulm Hotel, St Moritz – Extreme sports

Five star activity holidays don’t get more exciting than the Kulm Hotel. The resort dates back 160 years and offers a luxurious break in the glamourous town of St Moritz. In the summer you can enjoy lake Silvaplana, golf course, hiking, biking, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

is not to be missed. Including bobsleigh, skijoring, snowkiting, skydiving and a go on the notorious Cresta Run it’s the ultimate weekend. There are also more than 350km of slopes to explore skiing, snowboarding and cross country. Plus winter hiking and snowshoeing.

Aruba – Windsurfing

With its tropical climate and warm weather all year round, conditions are usually ideal for windsurfing in the Dutch Antilles. Along with Bonaire and Curaçao, Aruba makes up the ABC islands. Its flat, clear water and reliable wind makes it one of the best windsurfing destinations in the Caribbean.

If you’re travelling all this way, then you might want to indulge yourself in a bit of luxury. And you’re in luck. Check out the Ritz Carlton or the Aruba Marriott, both with beach front locations. Both have superb five star facilities, and a choice of luxury accommodation options.

Mauritius – Kitesurfing

Lying in the Indian Ocean, the island of Mauritius (and its accompanying smaller islands) is known for luxury. But it’s also one of the best kitesurfing destinations on the planet. Spots such as Le Morne have developed an impressive reputation for superb conditions and are understandably popular.

There are several other top spots around the islands, with few better than Anse La Raie. Located in the north of the island near Grand Baie, there’s plenty of shopping, eating and nightlife options. There’s also a choice of luxury on offer, at resorts including the Lux Grand Gaube and Lux Reunion. Five star activity holidays don’t get much better.

Cayman Islands – Diving

Essentially the upper peaks of an underwater mountain range, the low-lying Cayman Islands are much more than just an off-shore tax haven. The deep water around the islands, plus the lack or rivers, means visibility is excellent. And the coral reefs fringing the land are begging to be explored making it one of the best Caribbean dive sites.
