For almost half a year I have been conducting a comprehensive sport underwear review. In total I tested 31 pairs, by 14 brands over 8 criteria. Although I have tested all types of underpants, this article is a detailed review of the best long boxers for active men.
I wore all undies for at least five days and washed them at least five times. I tested them doing star jumps, squats and lunges. I also went for a run of about eight kilometres and a walk of around two kilometres.
Each pair of pants was scored out of five for support, restriction, ruckage and bunching, sweatiness, initial comfort, all day comfort, active comfort and signs of wear. Furthermore I awarded a maximum of five bonus points for factors such as using natural fibres, eco-friendly policies and innovation.
This meant every pair of undies got a score out of 45, with the highest score being top of the sport underwear review. An addition to this, by dividing the score by the price (Points per £ spent), I had could rank the best long boxers for active men by value for money.
If you’d like to find out more about how I have conducted this sport underwear review, read this article about the best underpants for sport and adventure. It includes a table of all the results across all 31 pairs for the 8 different criteria, and ranks them from best to worst.
To be considered long boxers the legs of these underpants were over six inches long, below this they fall into the boxer shorts category. Overall I found long boxers to be the best for sports that require a lot of different movements such as football, squash and snowboarding.
During this sport underwear review I tested five pairs of long boxers. Although it was the smallest category they boasted and impressive three pairs in the top six out of 31 pairs of underwear. So, with the top ranked undies first these are the best boxer shorts for active men:
Total Score: 39 Price: £16 Points per £ spent: 2.4
Materials: 88% Polyester 12% Elastane
Say goodbye to your tighty-whities. Jockey’s latest streamlined Performance underwear offers comfort, support, and an elasticity suited to men who lead active lives. A polyester-and-elastane fabric blend gives these moisture-wicking, lightweight, cooling underwear just the right amount of compression and support for the man on the move.
With a score of 39 out of 45 these were the second highest scoring underpants overall – along with five other pairs two of which are long boxers. However, these top the list of the best boxer shorts for active men by virtue of being better value for money at just £16 per pair.
They are soft and very comfortable, and feel cool against the skin. They kept me very dry during exercise and were just as comfortable for a day in the office as they were for a day snowboarding or on a long run.
These Jockey’s provide a small amount of compression, which add great support and the long length seemed to keep my thigh muscles happy during exercise. In my opinion these are the best long boxers for active men that are looking for value and great everyday undies.

Another scoring 39 and another exceptionally good long boxer. Although these pants officially have a six inch leg, they felt longer than other six inchers, hence why they are in the long boxers category.
They have a very soft material that unlike many others do not feel cool to touch, making them particularly good for colder days. They feel snug, with a lot of support and at first feeling slightly tight – but I did not notice this when worn all day.
The waistband is the best in this sport underwear review, very soft with bobbles that aid wicking – this innovation was worth a bonus point. These are the best long boxers for active men in cooler weather, I found them great for snowboarding, winter hiking and as everyday underpants.

You’ll forget you have anything on when you’re wearing Performance Pro Long Shorts, which are as comfortable as they are functional. With a longer inseam ensuring they won’t ride up, plus mesh inserts in front and between the legs to keep you cool, these wicking, hydro-pro shorts have a 3.5-cm elastic waistband with contrasting text.
As the third pair of long boxers to score 39 out of 45 these only lost out on price. The reason for the extra cost is probably the extra materials used with both a main material and a mesh section.
These were the top ranked pants that scored 5/5 for support. This meant they felt a little tight making them initially less comfortable, but you don’t notice when active. The extra support means that are ideal for higher impact activities when you need your junk secured!
The wicking material is very soft and cooling, plus there are no seams to rub making them the perfect exercise pants. In my opinion these are the best long boxers for active men who consider support the most important factor.

These men’s tights offer cooling and help keep your energy up so you can perform at your peak throughout your workout. Their compression fit adds muscle support to extend your training by reducing muscle vibration, while climachill™ enhances air movement and drying with mesh-like fabric.
These are not just underwear but compression tights, which means they feel tight! This makes them initially feel uncomfortable, it’s also weird having undies down to your knees. Although the feeling of tightness goes away after a while it is still there so they are not underwear I would unless doing sport.
The first couple of times I wore them I found the meshed gusset area sometimes caught the odd hair, but this stopped after a couple of washes. Due to the tightness they are not perfectly comfortable and require adjustment every now and then. They are great at wicking away sweat and there is no problem with rucking.
They are made for sport and in this they excel, Wearing them I ran further and for longer than normal, due to the compression reducing tiredness and enhancing performance.
These are the best long boxers for active men who put performance above comfort. They are also good for sports where muscle injuries could be a problem such as football.

Breeze through a tough tennis match, a triathlon or whatever challenge you’re pursuing with these Performance Pro Windproof Victor shorts in Solid black. You’ll have the wind at your back, thanks to windproof panels in the front, which protect you from both cold and blowy conditions. Designed with the true athlete in mind, these shorts help you play to your passion.
Being British, when I think of of windproof underpants I get images of a fake advert in Viz about undies that stop farts escaping. Fortunately these pants are about stopping external wind rather than blocking that which you create yourself.
As with the other performance pants these feel supporting, seamless and soft. However the windproof material feels strange reducing their comfort slightly. Also I found I got sweatier in them than in the other Bjorn Borg Performance underwear.
These are the best long boxers for active men in cold and windy weather when you’ll not be wearing a technical outer layer. For example, there is no point wearing windproof pants snowboarding as your trousers stop the wind, but I found them great for running on cold windy days.

I was surprised at how well the long boxers ranked overall compared to normal boxer shorts and briefs. With just five pairs of long boxers in this review, having three of the top six out of all 31 underpants is a testament to how good long boxers are for active wear.
Interestingly, of the five pairs tested no single underpant stood out as the best long boxer for active men. To conclude this sport underwear review, they all ranked very well and have different strengths that make them suitable for different activities. So choose your long boxers depending on what you do.
