Ever considered whether you can go paragliding in Croatia? Well then check out this guide to Split paraglide holidays as it is a good base for a vacation with plenty of flying opportunities nearby.
Croatia is gathering an ever-better reputation as a Mediterranean holiday destination. The city of Split is a favourite of many of Croatia’s holidaymakers, with its lively nightlife and gorgeous beaches.
But those who go simply to lie on the beaches or to party are missing something. The area around Split is exceptionally beautiful, making it a great place to head paragliding.
Split is the jumping off point for visits to the local holiday islands, such as Hvar and Brac, as well as resorts along the coast. If you’re staying near the city, it’s certainly worth a day trip as there is a lot to see and do in Split.
Like much of Croatia, Split lies between mountains and sea. On Split paraglide holidays, you’ll be able to jump off the Dinaric Alps, fly past snow-capped peaks and over deep valleys.
Most flights come with a breathtaking view of the Adriatic. You can also fly along the coast, with a wonderful view of the mountains inland. The air is generally calm and clear, making great conditions for beginners and cross-country flyers alike.
Just 25km down the coast from Split is the town of Omis, a celebrated centre for adrenalin sports. Huge, jagged cliffs rise out of the landscape and along the coast, creating breathtaking views and good launches for paragliders.
The nearby Omis Dinara mountain at elevation of nearly 400 meters it a great launch. Flights often last over three hours landing in the town beach known as ‘The Big Beach’ (Velika Plaža). Tandem flights are possible.
If you are looking for a wilder place to fly, head into the mountains. You’ll find national parks with unspoilt, rugged scenery, untouched forests and rocky valleys.
Head to Split for a spot of paragliding in Croatia and you will get to ride gentle thermals over some of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe. Before booking check out our Croatia adventure holiday discounts as you could save a packet!
