In the adventure sports there’s often a search for new outdoor gear that’s lighter and more ‘technical’. Living outdoors for extended times means your gear needs to to take the knocks but can’t be made so strong it’s heavy.
New Outdoor Gear 2013
The only solution then is to make it from the smartest of materials. Well, here’s a selection of new outdoor gear that just walked away with Gold prizes at the 2013 OutDoor Industry Awards in Friedrichshafen.
La Sportiva Trango Cube Gore-Tex mountaineering boots
An ultra-light, technical, mountain-climbing shoe weighing in at just 675g per boot! Designed for technical alpinism and fixed-rope-route excursions. La Sportiva has opted to not use traditional stitching, going instead for an over -injection design.
“light weight, outstanding comfort fit, way out front in terms of design”
Adidas Terrex SCOPE GTX approach shoe
A scientifically-tested outsole design in a technical approach shoe designed for steep climbs and easy climbing routes. Breathable Gore Tex lining and smart laces that have varying thickness – clever.
“everything that a rock-scrambling shoe needs: good footing, absorbs shock, best rubber sole in its class for excellent grip, a great example of integrated shoe design.”
Arc’teryx Alpha FL 45 Pack
With a built-in roll top waterproof storage compartment, this is really a striped down pack for the mountain goats. Getting a rucksack down in weight is not easy – while making sure it keeps all the qualities people need on the mountain. With all the alpine attachments you could throw an ice axe at, it still weighs in at 680g – which is impressive for a 45ltr pack.
“perfect workmanship, convincing due to its light weight and its successful design”
