Looking for a different kind of triathlon challenge? Then the launch of the new Starman mid-distance night triathlon in Scotland is a unique endurance event. Aimed at experienced triathletes, it’s one of only a few night triathlons in the UK and the first categorised as mid-distance.
Taking place in the stunning Cairngorms National Park, you can expect a tough, sleepless and wild night of putting your mind and body to the ultimate test. As you run through the Cairngorms towards the finish line, dawn will break and all the pain and effort will have been spectacularly worth it.
Starman is set under the Scottish stars, the race begins at midnight on Saturday 19th August 2017 (or 18th August 2018) when competitors will slip into the inky black waters of Loch Morlich. It’s a 1.2-mile swim through the ink black waters before transitioning into the 56-mile cycle along the dark and silent Speyside roads.
The final section is a wild mountain half marathon to the summit of Cairn Gorm. You head back through the Glenmore Forest to Ryvoan Bothy, then up and over Meall a’ Bhuachaille to the finish back at the Beach Hub. The final section should be as the sun rises and the stunning views are slowly revealed.
Starman is the UK’s very first night-time, mid-distance triathlon. It’s aimed at experienced triathletes and fitness addicts looking for a more unique kind of challenge. The event has been specifically designed to test your physical fitness, mental strength and triathlon skills.
Competitors must have some experience of open water swimming, navigation, off road running and hill climbing in order to take part. So it’s not an event suited to beginners but hopefully something to work towards.
The Starman mid-distance night triathlon in Scotland is organised by True Grit Events, a company that specialises in building and delivering exceptional endurance challenge events. They host events in spectacular locations, designing them to help you push yourself harder and further than ever before.
With over 20 years experience working on some of the UK’s biggest and best endurance races, True Grit Events has been set up by Andrew Hastings and Caroline MacKechnie.
Speaking about the Starman mid-distance night triathlon in Scotland, Caroline said: ‘We believe it will be one of the UK’s toughest triathlons and we are asking if people can find their True Grit in the dark. Whilst the event itself will really push people to their limit, running through the Cairngorms as dawn breaks as a finale to all that hard work and effort will be truly breathtaking’.
