Thanks to its central location in Bulgaria, in the southern flanks of the Balkan, this walk offers many opportunities for hiking and snowshoeing among wildlife. A visit in winter means that you will have the chance to spend the night at the cosiest huts in Bulgaria without the crowds. The roads are open year-round. As a bonus, the region is rich with hot mineral water and the winter is the ideal time to dip into its warmth.
Day 1: Walk from the Karnare village to the hut Dermenka. The path is going up gently to the main crest of the mountain. From this point to the hut, the terrain is mild and safe in winter, without any substantial ascending and descending.
Day 2: Walk from the hut Dermenka to the hut Dobrila. It is a pleasant forest walk along the main crest of the mountain. All the way to the hut Dobrila provides good panoramas to the mighty peaks around. Dobrila hut is a nice spot for a rest before the drop to the town of Sopot.
Day 3: Walk from the hut Dobrila to the town of Sopot. In the area there is a lift also that supports many sports as paragliding even in winter.
