Explore the alluring Upper Mustang trek and its ancient heritages on this trekking tour of Himalaya Kingdom
Until the 1990s, the kingdom of Mustang didn’t open its gate to tourists. Due to this reason, the Upper Mustang Valley is now a perfect example of preserved Tibetan traditions and cultures with a bit of Nepali influence. Now, with permits, you can enter the serene pristine valley and discover the beauty it has to offer. On the Upper Mustang Trek with the Himalaya Land Treks, you get to visit the main landmarks which are quite important to the locals and also get to experience their culture first-hand.
The trip takes 16 days to complete and you start at Kathmandu, where you give necessary documents to get the permit. While our staffs deal with the official work, you sightsee the landmarks of Kathmandu. Some of the places you visit are Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Then, you head to Pokhara via Prithivi Highway. After a bit of exploring Pokhara, you fly to Jomsom and from there you start your trek. The first destination is Kagbeni, the entry point to Upper Mustang. You pass Tangbe to enter Kali Gandaki Valley and rest at Chele. From there, you pass by many beautiful Tibetan villages like Ghiling and Charang to reach Lo-Manthang, the capital of ancient Mustang.
You also cross 2 passes i.e. Taklam La Pass (3,634 m) and Dajori La Pass (3,735 m). At Lo-Manthang, one whole day is separated to explore the ancient town and you visit the landmarks like the king’s palace and Thupchen monasteries. After exploring the capital, you return to Jomsom via Dhakmar. You cross the final pass of this trip, Chogo La Pass (4,210 m), which is also the highest point you reach during this whole trip.
Since the Upper Mustang, is a dry and windy region, you must bring warm clothes like jackets regardless of which season you trek to. It is recommended to do during the spring and autumn season, as the weather is not extreme.
While making sure every one of us enjoys the journey thoroughly, it is also necessary to make sure we do it safely which needs a planned itinerary and well-trained personnel. We, here at Himalaya Land Treks, have been doing so for over a decade and we assure you a lovely adventure through the Himalayas.
