Spantik Golden Peak Expedition: Climbing in Pakistan

At over 7000 metres high, the beautiful Spantik is known as the Golden Peak. This expedition for those serious about climbing, is a wonderful adventure in Pakistan.

This peak was climbed in 1978 by Japan expedition Hashi to Harashi (Storm & Star) which was led by Nakamura. The Royal Alpine Club expedition of Japan, but other information is that this peak was first climbed in 1955 via the SE crest by a German expedition led by Karl Kramer.

Spantik is a superb climbing opportunity for those wanting to further their mountaineering skills and altitude experience To join the expedition and to have a good chance of success, it is preferable that you have both technical mountaineering experience to 4000m in the Alps and trekking peak experience to 6000m in the Greater Ranges.

Its base camp is within easy reach. Spantik lies in the Karakorum Range and you can be reached in four days including one day for the jeep drive from Skardu. For about three days we will trek on and beside Chogolungma glacier. The height of the base camp is 4100 meters. Spantik lies in between Nagar Valley (also known as Golden Peak) near Hunza and Arandu Valley in Baltistan. The normal South East route to Spantik 7027 meters is from Chogolungma Glacier in Arandu Valley of Baltistan. Among 7000’s meters high peaks Spantik is the most beautiful and fascinating peak. Every year it\’s attracting dozens of adventure lovers from all over the World, from which 80% of them successfully climb this beautiful mountain. As with many high mountains, weather and snow conditions, and climbers, personal fitness and acclimatization will determine whether the summit is reached. Although not technically difficult. Spantik peak is a serious undertaking and requires extensive previous alpine or expedition experience.

  • OUR SERVICES INCLUDES THE FOLLOWINGS: FEES: - Environment Fee of US$ 200 (Non-refundable). - Issuance of Environmental bond of US$ 1000 without deposit of any amount. The amount would be subject to forfeitures in full or in part thereof in case the expedition or any of its members causes damage to environment. PAPER WORK AND OFFICIAL FORMALITIES: - Submission of application for climbing permit and coordination with Ministry of Tourism Islamabad for obtaining climbing permit. - Arrangements for meeting with Liaison Officer. - Arrangements for Welcome and Send-Off meetings with Ministry of Tourism, Islamabad. - Permit for use of Satellite Phone if required. - Permission for duty free import/export of kit/equipment of expedition and food. HOTEL ACCOMMODATION: - Hotel accommodation tourist class hotels on double occupancy basis in Rawalpindi/Islamabad and full board in the towns. 1- Hotel accommodations in Rawalpindi/Islamabad 04 nights with bed and breakfast. 2- Hotel in Chilas 02 nights. 3- Hotel in Skardu 03 nights. TRANSPORTATION: - Airport transfers in Rawalpindi/Islamabad. - Air-Conditioned coach for journey from Islamabad to Skardu and back to Islamabad for members and expedition baggage. - Non-air-conditioned jeeps from Skardu to Askole and back to Skardu for members and expedition baggage. CAMPING EQUIPMENT: - Sleeping tents (2 man) during trekking and stay at Bc. - Mess Tent. - Kitchen Tent. - Mattresses. - Toilet Tent. STAFF: - Cook, Helper, Sirdar and low altitude porters. - Their insurance, wages, food, kit/equipment and accommodations. CUSTOMS CLEARANCE OF EXPEDITION BAGGAGE: - Customs clearance of expedition baggage on arrival and departures. - Transfer of expedition baggage with expedition team. You can take 75kg while your departure to base camp and 50kg while back from base camp (Per member). The member will be responsible to pay if baggage exceeds above to allowed kgs. KITCHEN EQUIPMENT: - Cooking pots. - Kitchen utensils. - Table and chairs. - Lamps. MEALS DURING TREKKING & CAMPING: - Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea of Coffee. The meals will be provides during trekking and camping at base camp. CAMPING FEE & MISCELLANEOUS: - Camping fees, - Arrangement of high altitude tents (North Face tents) on payment. - Welcome and Goodbye Diner in best restaurant or hotel in Islamabad. - EPI and Oxygen gas are available on request and payment.

What to expect

ITINERARY
Day 1 : ARRIVAL
Arrival at Islamabad International Airport and transfer to the hotel . In the evening briefing at Alpine Club of Pakistan. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 2 : ISLAMABAD TO CHILAS
Departure for Chilas via Babusar Top, Kaghan Valley Check-in hotel at Chilas.

Day 3 : CHILAS TO SKARDU
Arrival in Skardu. Total drive time from Islamabad to Skardu is 22-24 hours.
Overnight in the hotel

Day 4 : SKARDU
Final arrangement of the Expedition.
DAY 05 SKARDU -TO- ARANDU
Embark jeeps for a full day ride on a winding jeep trail to Arandu - The last inhabitance on our way to the Base Camp.
Overnight in tents.
DAY 06 – 08 ARANDU -TO- BASE CAMP
Early morning leave the last inhabited village. For the remaining portion of our journey we rely on our porters who carry our food and equipment’s and sustain our expedition. Overnight in tents.
DAY 09 - 28 CLIMBING
Climbing start towards Summit. Length of Climbing period depends on weather, fitness, and experience of the climber.
DAY 29 - 30 TREKKING BACK TO ARANDU VILLAGE
After an early breakfast leave the Spantik Golden Peak base camp and we will trek down to Arandu village in two days. Overnight in tents.
DAY 31 ARANDU -TO- SKARDU
Full day drives on a winding jeep trail to Skardu. Upon arrival transfer to hotel. All meals included.
DAY 32 SKARDU – KAGHAN
Early in the morning fly to Islamabad, if unable to fly same day drive to Kaghan. Overnight in hotel.
DAY 33 KAGHAN TO ISLAMABAD
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Evening sightseeing.
DAY 34 RAWALPINDI
De-briefing at Alpine Club of Pakistan. Afternoon sightseeing. Overnight in the hotel
DAY 35 FLY BACK HOME
Transfer to airport for your onward destination.
