Take the local bus from Zdiar to Stary Smokovec (High Tatras). Walk to the station of the cable car and take the ride to Hrebienok, a famous starting point of many hiking trails. Follow the green sign to the cascading Cold Creek waterfalls where you can take some excellent photos. Continue to a forest glade (cca 20 minutes from the waterfalls) “Starolesnianska Polana” where the oldest mountain hut of the High Tatras – the Rainer´s Hut can be found. Follow the red sign and hike about 90 minutes on the most popular hiking trail of the Tatras to Skalnate Pleso mountain tarn/lake. A few minutes before reaching Skalnate Pleso mountain tarn we advise to have a break at Skalnata Hut – a typical mountain hut found along the way. Some of the mountain huts in the High Tatras are run by “sherpas”. The original cottager of the Skalnata Hut won the “sherpas´contest” by carriing 207.5 kg to the cottage from the vally floor. The photo/ certificate is displayed at the cottage.
Skalnate Pleso (mountain tarn) is the place where the iconic red cable car to Lomnicky Peak (Slovakia´s second highest peak) starts from. Walk around the tarn, visit the observatory, and simply keep focus your lens and take some wondrous images. Take the cable car down to Tatranska Lomnica and enjoy spending some time in one of the most popular mountain villages of the High Tatras. After spending some quality time in Tatranska Lomnica take the local bus to return to Zdiar.
