Itinerary for Lapland multi activity adventure holiday in Rovaniemi, Finland
Day 1 : Full Day Helsinki Tour and Sightseeing, Night Train to Rovaniemi
Beginning in the capital city of Finland, Helsinki, explore the city’s most prominent cathedrals: The Helsinki Cathedral and Uspenski Cathedral. Built in the 1800’s, the cathedrals were built while Finland was a part of Russia. Now, the cathedrals are landmarks of Helsinki. Next, wander the outdoor Kauppatori Market. Filled with everything from local produce to souvenirs, Kauppatori creates a vibrant atmosphere within the city. The last stop in this city tour is the Sibelius Park. In the heart sits a monument to Sibelius: a renowned Finnish composer accredited with helping Finland develop a national identity. The park is on the waterfront of a large bay with one of the best cafes in Helsinki nearby. Your day concludes with an overnight train to Rovaniemi.
Day 2 : Welcome to Rovaniemi - The Official Hometown of Santa Claus
Rovaniemi is the capital of Christmas spirit and the hometown of Santa Claus. Fulfill your childhood dreams of meeting the real Santa Claus in his Santa Claus village! Located in the Arctic Circle, you will also receive a certificate for crossing into the Arctic Circle and will become a true Arctic trekker!
Day 3 : Full Activities Day in The Winter Land
Now that you have become a certified Arctic trekker, try out your newfound skillset with a snowshoe trek through the forest. Snowshoes distribute your weight over a larger area, allowing you to walk through deep snow without falling in. We continue through the frozen wilderness until you reach the ice fishing location. Depending on the time of the year, the lake could be frozen up to 30 cm down; use your ice drills to get down to moving water. If luck is on your side, you can try your hand at catching a trophy. As the day starts coming to an end, you will settle down near a campfire and enjoy a barbecue lunch. Once nighttime comes, head out to a Northern Lights viewing location and go hunting for the Aurora.
Day 4 : Trip to Ranua Zoo and Rovaniemi Main Attractions
Ranua Wildlife Park is one of the most popular attractions in Lapland. Open every day of the year, Ranua provides its lovely Arctic animals an authentic environment to live in. The park has roughly 50 wild animal species and over 200 arctic animals; including polar bears. The day trip continues to a tour of the city. Named the Northern Lights Church, the Rovaniemi Church is the largest church in Rovaniemi. Originally made of wood, it was burned down and later reconstructed in 1950. The church remains a cornerstone of the city. The tour continues to the most scenic parts of the city including the Lapland City Hall.
Day 5 : Reindeer and Husky Farm Activities
Rovaniemi is one of the largest cities in Europe, with much of the city being forestland. Within this forestland live many different animals and critters; most importantly reindeer and huskies. While in the summertime the reindeer roam free, they return to their farms in winter. The tour visits the reindeer and husky farms for a chance to meet and feed these animals of Lapland.
Day 6 : Hunting The Northern Lights
Rovaniemi has many attractions that are worth a viewing, such as the Arktikum or the Lumberjack’s Candle Bridge. A perfect way to spend a free day and learn more about the city. At night, you will continue your tour with another Northern Lights hunt.
Day 7 : End of The Tour - Back to Helsinki
On the last day of your Lapland multi activity adventure holiday in Rovaniemi, Finland, you will enjoy free time to walk around the city and ,maybe, buy some souvenirs! Then we will take you to the train station so you can take the train back to Helsinki.
