This 8-day Jordan multi activity holiday to Petra and Wadi Rum camel trek lets you experience intensely the desert, and you will not miss the famous rock city of Petra and the Dead Sea. After your arrival to Jordan start along the King’s Way to the south visiting Mount Nebo, the remains of the Crusader castle Kerak and Little Petra, once a caravan stopping point.

Enter Petra by hiking along the back trail leading you to the impressive Monastery El Deir and later to the Treasury. Then experience the beauty and magic of the desert. Three days riding on back of a camel at a slow pace gives you a real perspective of this fascinating landscape with its stunning rock formations and sand dunes.

Sleeping at wild camps with starry night skies and the stories of your local desert guide will give you the real feel for the Bedouin culture.

What to expect

Day to day plan for Jordan multi activity holiday to Petra and Wadi Rum camel trek:

Day 1: Amman Airport - Madaba Hotel
Ahlan Wa Sahlan - Welcome to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan! Our representative meets you with a signage before the immigration and assists you with the procedure. After you collect the luggage and pass the customs, the representative matches you with your driver. He takes you for 30 minutes to the town of Madaba, check into your hotel, rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Madaba - Mt Nebo - King’s Way - Kerak Castle - Little Petra - Petra Hotel
Madaba is known in Jordan as the “City of Mosaic”. See the famous 6th century mosaic map of the Holy Land at St. George’s Church and more mosaics in the Archaeological Park. Short ride to Mt Nebo. From here overlook the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and parts of the Holy Land. According to the Bible this is the place where Moses was granted to see the Promised Land before he died and alleged to be his burial place. Travel along the famous ancient caravan route of the King’s Way. Photo stop in Wadi Al Mujib, a great wide valley with magnificent geological formation, identical with the Arnon River of the Hebrew Bible. Then to the remains of the Crusader castle Kerak. Explore the underground passageways, enjoy the view and imagine how the forces of Salah ad-Din besieged this stronghold several times. Short visit to Little Petra. With its small sandstone temples and tombs it prepares you for your Petra visit tomorrow. Overnight in Petra.

Day 3: Petra Back Route Hike to El Deir – Petra Hotel
Petra offers several trails to explore more of the vast, ancient city. Today we take the back route from Little Petra to the Monastery El Deir. We pass by the remains of the Neolithic village Beidah, walk across open farmland before we enter mountainous area. The path opens up to see the impressive façade of the Monastery El Deir, 45 meters high, cut in the sandstone rock. Explore the monument and its surrounding areas with great views over the Wadi Araba. Follow the around 800 stairs down to the lower parts of Petra, where you recognize the main trail ending at the main gate. The hike is moderate and takes about 4 hours to reach the Monastery. There is just one exposed area where it might be a little challenging for people being afraid of heights. Overnight in Petra.

Day 4: Petra Hotel - Wadi Rum Camel Trekking First Day - Wild Camping
Start the day with a one and a half hours drive to Wadi Rum Village. Meet your camels and your Bedouin guide, who will give you a brief tutorial on how to mount and ride your camel. Then your adventure begins! Along the way visit Lawrence's Spring, where Lawrence of Arabia washed during the Arab Revolt. We will then continue to Wadi Um Ishrin and the famous sand dune area. Here we will stop for tea, a delicious lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, see the ancient Anfashiyeh inscriptions, before crossing over to Um Rashid Canyon, and passing Lawrence's House. We will then trek onwards to prepare the bivouac campsite. Tents, mattresses and blankets are provided. Enjoy the dinner cooked over the fire and your first night in Wadi Rum under the starry sky.

Accommodation: Wild Camping. Tents will be set up for you. Each tent is equipped with mattresses and blankets. No bathroom is available, water for washing will be provided.

Day 5: Camel Trekking Second Day - Wild Camping
Each day we begin the camel ride in the morning, have a long lunch break and continue in the afternoon. You have plenty of opportunities to take photos. After our breakfast we head to the east-south part of Wadi Rum. Passing by beautiful canyons, red and white sand dunes we reach the Burdah Rock Bridge, the highest in the desert. Enjoy your lunch in a shady place. Saddle your camels and off we go to the Um Frouth Rock Bridge. You have time to scramble about 15 minutes to the top of the bridge to enjoy some amazing views over the timeless landscape. At Um Frouth we set up the camp for our second night in Wadi Rum with an amazing sunset and a night under the desert sky.

Day 6: Camel Trekking Third Day - Wadi Rum Camp
For sure, you already feel like a Bedouin of the past, traveling for days and weeks on back of a camel to cross the desert. You appreciate the “Ship of the Desert”, their slow pace and the knowledge, only their adaptation to the harsh environment made this form of traveling possible for Bedouins. We trek through the Kashkasheh Canyon to the Um Sabatah area. Here you see one of Wadi Rum’s interesting rock formation shaped by natural erosion, the Cow Rock, some identify it as Chicken Rock. Enjoy your well-earned rest. In the afternoon the camel takes us to the natural Al Qatar spring and to the Khazali Canyon with its rock inscriptions. This night you stay at one of the fixed camps to treat yourself to a shower. Dinner and last overnight in the desert.

Day 7: Wadi Rum Camp – Dead Sea Hotel
Leaving Wadi Rum, we drive along the scenic Wadi Araba Road with its colourful, rolling mountains to the east and the typical acacia trees. Within three and a half hours reach the Dead Sea. Check into your hotel for a leisurely afternoon at the lowest point on earth. Bob like a cork in salty waters, cover your skin with the famous dark mud on its shores or just relax.

Day 8: Dead Sea Hotel - Amman Airport
At a prearranged time we pick you up from your hotel lobby. The drive to Amman Airport takes about an hour. Say farewell to Jordan - Ma’a Salamah- and the end of your Jordan multi activity holiday to Petra and Wadi Rum camel trek!
