We believe there is more to winter in the Alps than skiing, so how about aguided snowshoeing holiday in Austria with daily yoga instead? Situated at 1800m, MoaAlm offers a superb base from which to explore the breathtaking mountains of East Tirol on foot. Our local snowshoe guide will teach you how to use snow shoes before taking you on stunning hikes through beautiful snow laden forests and on high Alpine ridges.
Every holiday with us includes five yoga classes in our in-house yoga studio with panoramic mountain views. At MoaAlm we believe that yoga is for everyone, no matter what your age or level of fitness and, as such, our classes are prepared with all of our guests in mind.
We are situated on the edge of the Hohe Tauren National Park underneath Austria’s highest mountain, Großglockner. This means we have a unique opportunity to spot rare wildlife such as Ibex on an almost daily basis. Our local guide is extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna around MoaAlm and will be able to tell you about the unique Alpine species you will see. Our local village Kals is still a traditional Alpine village, where many of the residents graze animals on the high alpine pastures in the summertime.
Plan for our guided snowshoeing holiday in Austria with daily yoga
Day 1: Arrival to your mountain home 'MoaAlm'. You enjoy a welcome drink and cake, taking in the stunning mountain views. You meet other guests over a delicious three course dinner.
Day 2: Yoga, looking out at the sun rising from behind the mountains, followed breakfast. Today is an introduction to snowshoeing. The hike today will be shorter as we get to know how to use the snowshoes. On our hike from MoaAlm into the valley we will teach you the techniques needed for your hikes during the week. Lunch will be at a local mountain restaurant before we take a remote route back to MoaAlm, passing through beautiful forest. Time to relax back at the house in the late afternoon and take a dip in the wood fired hot tub.
Day 3: Energising yoga before our guide leads you on your first ever cross country ski lesson. The forest is laden with snow and you are able to see local wildlife tracks.
Day 4: We might have an early start to have enough time to snow shoe all the way up to the Schönleitenspitze peak and enjoy a picnic with panoramic views. Back at the house we recover with hot chocolate and freshly baked cake.
Day 5: No activity today so you can head to the local piste for the day, take the snowshoes out on one of the marked trails or improve your cross country ski technique. Dinner out this evening at one of the restaurants in the village.
Day 6: After breakfast we enjoy a snow shoe hike high up in the shadow of Austria's tallest mountain Grossglockner. We will have lunch in a restaurant on top of the mountain overlooking the valley. The evening could be spend with a restorative yoga session at MoaAlm or chilling in the living room.
Day 7: Friday starts with an energising yoga session before you choose between a day on the freshly groomed cross country pistes, or a final beautiful snowshoeing in Austria.
