The journey to Everest Three Passes begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airport, and then the trekking journey begins towards Phakding. The itinerary differs from agency to agency. However, Boundless Adventure provides an 18-day itinerary that includes visiting every part of the region with proper acclimatization.
The journey of Everest Three Pass is not only limited to passing those high passes but also includes getting to the best viewpoints, including Nangkar Tshang and Kalapatthar, and taking a trip to the well-known Everest Base Camp. The trail to Everest Three Pass goes through beautiful scenery, including the famous Tengboche Monastery. You can experience the unique combination of the Buddhist culture of the mountain region while enjoying the view of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest. Passing all three passes is a significant achievement, along with the beauty of mountains and a Gokyo lake along the trail.
Among the three passes, the first is the Kongma La pass. The journey is challenging with rough terrain but rewarding with stunning views. Panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Everest are visible as you ascend to the Kongma La Pass. The next pass is Cho La Pass. The trail to Cho La Pass goes through beautiful nature, crossing glacial areas and paths with rocks. As you descend, you can see the beautiful blue waters of Gokyo Lakes with snowy mountains. The last pass is Renjo La Pass, which goes through Lumde. Upon reaching the top of Renjo La Pass, you’ll get a panoramic view of Mount Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other surrounding peaks through different angles.
As the Everest Three Pass includes passing different adventurous passes and getting up to the Kalapatthar and Everest base Camps, you must be physically and mentally fit before starting your journey. We recommend that you have previous trekking experience and get involved in Physical activities before beginning your journey.
During the trekking journey, you’ll go through challenging terrain, experience diverse landscapes, and immerse yourself in the rich culture of the Khumbu region. Itinerary for the Everest Three Passes: Himalayas trekking holiday.
Day 1: Fly to Lukla (2840m) and Trek to Phakding (2610m)
Early in the morning, our member will drop you off at Kathmandu domestic airport; after checking in, on a 45-minute flight, you will land at Lukla Airport from Kathmandu Airport. After landing at Lukla airport and having lunch, your trekking journey begins towards Phakding. Crossing several passes and sherpa villages, including Chheplung, Ghat, and Chhuthawa, trekkers reach Phakding within 3-4 hours of the trek. During the walk, trekkers enjoy the view of Mount Kusum Kangguru. Overnight at Phakding.
Day 2: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m)
You\'ll start your morning by enjoying the view of Phakding and the surroundings, along with breakfast. After breakfast, the journey proceeds towards Namche Bazaar. The trekking route from Phakding to Namche Bazaar follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges. Passing through Rhododendron and Magnolia forests, trekkers reach Monjo from Phakding and then get to Jhorsale. Jhorsale is a point for having lunch and is a Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate. After leaving Jhorsale, hikers get to Larha Dobhan and the day\'s destination, Namche Bazaar. Five hours of walking takes you to Namche Bazaar, with a view of Mt. Thamserku and Mount Everest. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.
Day 3: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar
Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, trekkers gain more than 2000m altitude, so adjusting their bodies to the changed temperature is necessary. Thus, we have added an acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar on the third day to change temperature adaptation. On the acclimatization day, hikers visit the nearby areas of Namche Bazaar. Trekkers reach Syangboche Airport after the easy walk from Namche Bazaar. Then, from Syangboche Airport, trekkers get to the Everest View Hotel. Afterward, hikers explore the Longest Mani wall in Khumbu and return to Namche Bazaar via Khumjung Hillary School. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.
Day 4: Trek to Tengboche( 3860m)
The fourth day\'s trek starts towards Tengboche from Namche after breakfast. Trekkers reach Kyagjuma and get a stunning view of Mount Ama Dablam, Lhotse Shar, Taboche, Thamserku, and Kangtega. Phungi Thanga is the lunch and rest point. Again, passing through the rhododendron and pine forest from Phungi Thanga, trekkers get to Tengboceh after 5 hours of walking. Tengboche is well known for its monastery, Tengboche Monastery, which you can explore after getting there. Overnight at Tengboche.
Day 5: Trek to Dingboche (4410m)
Dingboche is another beautiful village in the Khumbu region, the destination of the fifth day. Passing the Rhododendron forest from Tengboche, trekkers reach Deboche after some time. From Deboche, trekkers cross several suspension bridges while sightseeing Musk, Deer, and Blue Sheep before going to Shomare. Shomare is a stop point for having lunch. Since hikers pass Shomare, they\'ll get Orsho. Moreover, passing suspension bridges from Shomare, trekkers reach Dingboche after a 4-5 hour trek. Overnight at Dingboche.
Day 6: Acclimatization at Dingboche
On the journey of Everest, three passes second acclimatization day after Namche Bazaar is Dingboche. Trekkers explore the nearby area of Dingboche on the sixth acclimatization day. Early in the morning of acclimatization day, trekkers start trekking to Nangkartshang Gompa at 5083m. From Nangkartshang Gompa, the view of Ama Dablam, Ama Dablam glacier, and Ama Dablam lake are attractive. If you want to explore more, you can go further at NangTshang at 5616m; if not, you can return from Nangkartshang Gompa to Dingboche overnight.
Day 7: Trek to Chhukung (4730m)
As usual, you\'ll have breakfast early in the morning and head towards your destination. The trail from Dingboche to Chhukung is gently ascending; trekkers gain nearly 500 m elevation. The path towards Chukhung follows the Imja River, passing a small settlement of Bibre Kharka. The trekking time is 4 hours from Dingboche. Overnight at Dingboche.
Day 8: Trek to Lobuche (4910m) via Kongma- La pass (5535m)
Trekkers start their trek early in the morning with a headlamp, around 3 am. With a packed lunch, trekkers ascend towards Kongma La Pass, a first pass on the Everest Three Passes trekking journey. You\'ll pass a high camp and campsite before reaching Kongma La Pass. Getting Kongma la Pass is challenging due to its altitude, yet rewarding due to its stunning viewpoint. From the Kongma La Pass top, a closer view of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Shar, Pum Ri, and surroundings are visible. Getting a Kongma La Pass from Chhukung takes 5 hours. After enjoying the view from Kongma La Pass, trekkers descend to Lobuche. It takes 3 hours to get to Lobuche. Overnight at Lobuche.
Day 9: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5364m) and Gorakshep (5140m)
Starting the trek early in the morning from Lobuche, hikers get to Gorakshep after 3 hours, passing via Lobuche La (5110m). Leaving their bags at the hotel in Gorakshep, trekkers move their feet towards the highest base camp in the world, Everest Base Camp. Ascending through beautiful scenery, trekkers set foot on Everest Base Camp, 5 hours from Lobuche. With the exploration at Everest Base Camp and views of stunning mountains, you\'ll be back in Gorakshep with a beautiful memory. Overnight at Gorakshep.
Day 10: Kalapathar(5550m) and trek to Dzongla (4830m)
Another memorable day in the Everest region starts with hiking towards Kalapatthar. Kalapatthar is a stunning viewpoint well known for providing fantastic views of mountains and sunrises. It is 2 hours of walking from Gorakshep to reach Kalapatthar. Upon reaching the top of Kalapatthar, trekkers feel a sense of accomplishment when they get a golden sunrise view and the mountain range, including the world\'s highest mountain, Mount Everest. After enjoying the satisfying view from Kalapatthar, trekkers descend back to Gorakshep. From Gorakshep, they will descend towards Dzongla and have lunch at Lobuche. The trek from Gorakshep to Dzongla takes 5 hours. Overnight at Dzongla.
Day 11: Trek to Thangnang (4700m) via Cho-la pass (5368m)
You\'ll trek on another pass on the eleventh day of the Everest Three Pass trekking journey. Leaving Dzongla early in the morning, trekkers go for Cho La Pass. Although Cho La Pass is at a lower altitude than Kongma La Pass, Cho La Pass is considered to be more difficult due to its icy trekking trail. On the Cho La pass trek, you should walk through the left side and avoid trekking during heavy snowfall. We recommend that you take the ropes with you. After 5 hours of an adventurous trek, trekkers reach the top of Cho La Pass and enjoy the view of the surroundings, which will help you forget your difficulties. The views from Cho La Pass are Gokyo, Mount Cho Oyu, and one of the longest glaciers, Gyazumba, and its surroundings. After that, hikers descend to Thangnang. Reaching Thangnag takes 2 hours from Cho La Pass top. Overnight at Thangnag.
Day 12: Trek to Gokyo (4790m)
After a warm breakfast at Thangnang, hikers go to Gokyo, the longest Khumbu Glacier in the Khumbu region. The trekking duration between Thangnang and Gokyo is close, but no lodges and hotels are between the trails. You must pack some energy-giving foods and have a water bottle for Gokyo Lake trekking. Within 4 hours of the trek, trekkers reach Gokyo and have lunch. You can explore Gokyo I, Gokyo II, Gokyo III, Gokyo IV, and Gokyo V after having lunch at Gokyo. As your hotel will be opposite Gokyo Lake, you can see Gokyo Lake any time you want. However, Gokyo IV and Gokyo V are far ahead of I, II, and III. Overnight at Gokyo.
Day 13: Explore Gokyo Ri (5357m)
After breakfast at Gokyo Hotel, you\'ll have a short hike towards Gokyo Ri for the stunning view of Makalu, Cho-Oyu, and the Everest Himalayan range, including Mount Everest. The trek can be completed within 4 hours. After appreciating the beauty of Gokyo Ri, you\'ll descend to Gokyo Hotel and have lunch. Trekkers rest during the day and explore Gokyo Lake, 43m deep in the afternoon. Overnight at Gokyo.
Day 14: Trek to Lungdhen (4380m) via Renjo-La pass ( 5360m)
Trekkers pass the final pass among the Everest three passes on the fourteenth day. Trekersl set their foot for Renjo La Pass early in the morning. You should have packed some lunch food and plenty of water in a bottle. A four-hour trek from Gokyo will get you to Renjo La pass top. The Everest Himalayan range, Mount Makalu, Tengi Ragi Tau, Rolwaling range, and Gyachung range can be visible from the top of the Renjo La Pass. After exploring and sightseeing in beautiful surroundings, trekkers descend to Lungdhen. It takes 3 hours to get to Lungdhen village from Renjo La Pass. Overnight at Lungdhen.
Day 15: Trek to Thame (3800m)
After a successful trek on Everest, Three passes, and exploration of the Everest region, trekkers start your return journey. Having breakfast at Lungdhen, you\'ll descend towards Thame. It takes 5 hours to reach Thame. Thame is a Buddhist village; you can visit the Buddhist monasteries there overnight at Theme.
Day 16: Trek to Monjo (2835m)
From Thame, you\'ll pass through Thamo and Phurte and reach Namche Bazaar. It takes three hours to get there. After lunch at Namche Bazaar, trekkers continue toward Monjo. Two hours from Namche Bazaar, take to Monjo to enjoy an excellent view of the mountains. Overnight at Monjo.
Day 17: Trek to Lukla (2840m)
The seventeenth day is the last in the Khumbu region, as the journey is about to end. With breakfast at Monjo, trekkers descend to Lukla, where they will say goodbye to Phakding, Ghat, and Chheplung. You\'ll have lunch either at Phakding or at Chheplung. Five hours from Monjo takes you to Lukla. Overnight at Lukla.
Day 18: Fly to Kathmandu (1400m)
We\'ll drop you off early in the morning at the Lukla airport, and you\'ll be on a scenic flight to Kathmandu after breakfast at the Lukla Hotel. A 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla will remind you of the journey you have spent on the trip. You\'ll be picked up from the airport and dropped off at the hotel. After getting fresh at the hotel, you can explore Kathmandu city.
