When the fastenings on my beloved, worn in and comfortable walking boots broke I was devastated. Sure that nothing was going to be as comfortable I looked for replacements.

I needed a pair of boots that were going to stand up to muddy paths and stony climbs. I wanted good support but light and comfy womens hiking boots. They should also still look slightly feminine for when I wear them around town.

When I first opened the box to see the Loke Rambler HT boots a smile reached my face as they looked really smart. A dark grey with pink details on the heel grips, inner lining and HH branding.

I was impressed with how light they were compared to my old now obviously bulky and cumbersome pair. This is not just a great feature for how they feel when wearing them, but also packing into a weight restricted suitcase.

Weatherproof hiking boots

These suede boots are exceptionally waterproof making them ideal for wet weather and all terrains. Having worn them in torrential rain and walked through many puddles I can confirm they keep your feet dry.

As well as being waterproof the fabric is also partly insulated so it keeps the cold out in low temperatures. And they are completely windproof. I wore the boots a lot in winter – mainly urban hiking – and my feet did not get cold.

That said warm boots can get sweaty. Fortunately, the breathability of the HellyTech Performance waterproof membrane lends them well to hard hiking and warmer weather as the sweat escapes.

Nobody wants hot sticky and sweaty feet when enjoying the great outdoors. During this Helly Hansen Loke Rambler review I found them more breathable and much less sweaty then my old boots.

Feel and comfort

The Loke Rambler have the tongue attached to the inside of the lining. This is to improve wind and water protection. Unfortunately it never sat quite right.

It took me a few times of wearing them to work out that it did not fold into place quite right. This lead to foot pain in my right but not left boot.

After checking both boots I realised there was an error in the stitching of the tongue on one side. I told Helly Hansen and they sent out a replacement pair of these light and comfy womens hiking boots. The new boots were perfect.

Grip and other features

I really like the multi directional grip. It allows for greater traction preventing slipping whether walking across wet supermarket floors or uneven outdoor terrain.

During this Helly Hansen Loke Rambler review I found the internal stabilizer stopped any flex within the sole. The high-grade EVA performance midsole is comfy and seems long lasting. Plus the removable EVA Performance Footbed is very comfortable.

The protective synthetic leather and premium waterproof suede are hard wearing. I have found they are also easy to clean once the mud had dried out.

Conclusion: Light and comfy womens hiking boots

Overall I am really pleased with these boots. I was also impressed with how quickly Helly Hansen rectified the issue I was having.

They look good and feminine enough that I am happy to wear them into town for shopping in bad weather. They are also perfect for a short walk across the Sussex Downs or heading for proper hiking in the Italian Dolomites.
