Vietnam has become a busy tourist hub over the last few years, and is well set up for visitors. If you want to relax and take a sailing cruise rather than crewing your own boat, head up north to Halong Bay. This gorgeous, wide bay is home to some seriously impressive limestone karst formations. Other-worldly cliffs rise out of the water, dwarfing the fishing villages below them. It is and one of Vietnam’s top tourist attractions, with luxury wooden junks sailing its tranquil waters.

If you’d rather get around under your own steam, Nha Trang makes a good starting point. This friendly beach resort is around halfway up Vietnam’s coast, and has a busy harbour. From Nha Trang, you’ll be able to explore the many tiny, often uninhabited, islands that surround it. Not far is Hoi An, an elegant town of wooden-fronted shops and houses, with an attractive harbour that was once the largest in Asia.

Ho Chi Minh City, once known as Saigon, is a major port and a good starting point for sailing tours of the south. Organised cruises and charter boats can explore the fringes of the Mekong River delta, and stop at gorgeous holiday islands such as Phu Quoc.

There are plenty of opportunities to explore off-the-beaten track by boat in Vietnam. While much of the coast is built up, much of it still is not, especially along the central strip. Pull up on a deserted beach and enjoy!

Vietnam is one of South-East Asia’s most enjoyable and varied countries to sail. Don’t take our word for it, experience Vietnam sailing holidays to see for yourself…

  1. Hi Jill

Thanks for the message but we are not a booking agent so I can’t really help. although from my time in Vietnam I remember there was a sailing club on the beach at Nha Trang, and there were options to sail around Halong Bay.
