Guide to Vassiliki kiteboarding holidays

The Vassiliki Kitesurfing beach is approximately 30 miles south of the capital of Lefkada Island. There is only one entry point to the island and that is via a bridge from the mainland. From here it takes about 45 minutes around the scenic coastal road.

Vassiliki is framed by steep hills which funnel the wind towards the centre of the island. It is this convergence of air which creates the wind. The beach itself is made up of golden sand and turquoise waters, surrounded by the town buildings. It is not a big town but it still has all the amenities that you would need.

The bay is quite large and has plenty of room for water sports enthusiasts with windsurfers and kitesurfers mixing it up. The bay has varying wind directions throughout the day. In the morning the wind is onshore and not as strong thus suiting beginners. In the afternoon the wind picks up and is cross shore providing good conditions for the more advanced riders. This helps with separating different levels of riders and creates a superb environment for Vassiliki kitesurfing.

Club Vass has some good accommodation available which is attached to the watersports centre situated on the main beach. There is a nice laid back feeling to the centre and to the town which adds to a relaxing holiday.

Vassiliki is a year round kitesurfing destination as the shape of the island creates wind most days. April through to September gives you the larger percentage of windy days with 80% of the time being over force 3 (10mph). In winter the weather is still warm so you will probably just need a short wetsuit and you will find a larger percentage of the days at force 4 or above (16mph+). During the summer the temperatures can reach 30+ degrees, so a rash vest and board shorts will do for your Vassiliki kitesurfing holiday.
