Tenerife isn’t all sunbathing and sand. It’s a great place to get out in a kayak and explore the water, too. There are no rivers on the island, so a Tenerife kayaking holiday is all about sea kayaking.
You can hire sea kayaks and get lessons or join group trips all around the island’s coastline. Much of the coastline is rocky, especially in the north of the island. That’s where you’ll find some of the most exciting and interesting kayaking, but also some of the most challenging. Less experienced kayakers might be better of sticking the trips off the southern beaches. But wherever you go, and whatever your experience, you’ll find plenty of interesting, exhilarating kayaking in Tenerife’s waters.
One of the big draws of sea kayaking is how close it brings you to the natural world. In Tenerife, that means that you might well find yourself paddling with whales and dolphins. You can also take a trip along the coast to one of the island’s more isolated bays, pull up and spend some time snorkelling in the clear water. Many kayaking guides will teach you about the island’s marine life as well as helping you to paddle. If you’d rather catch fish than look at them, try your hand at kayak fishing.
There are plenty of Sea kayaking operators in Tenerife. Big resorts such as Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes have companies that hire out kayaks and show you how to use them. Look for trips that will take you out to some of Tenerife’s more isolated stretches of coastline, with secluded beaches and rocky coves. For a real challenge, take on the crossing from Tenerife to nearby La Gomera.
A Tenerife kayaking holiday is a great way to learn to sea kayak or to test your skills, with plenty of places to travel to and a gorgeous setting.
