Sharm el Sheikh is known around the world for its outstanding scuba diving. But that’s not all this glittering Egyptian resort has to offer. Sharm’s warm Red Sea shores offer near-perfect conditions for windsurfers, too. Sharm’s combination of easy beginners’ sailing and strong winds to challenge the experts makes it a windsurfing top pick. Here’s what you need to know to plan your Sharm el Sheikh windsurfing holiday.
Sharm el Sheikh is a large resort, with some great beaches, a busy nightlife and luxury hotels. While it doesn’t quite have the super-strong winds that some other Egyptian resorts (such as El Tur or Dahab, have) it is a fantastic, high-quality all-round resort. As well as having plenty to keep windsurfers at all levels occupied, it’s a great place to combine windsurfing with other sports…or just with chilling out. The wind is good in Sharm all year round, but blows strongest in autumn and spring.
Nabq Bay, at the northern end of Sharm el Sheikh, is the resort’s prime spot for windsurfing. It has a huge flat-water lagoon, separated from the open sea by a natural reef. Shallow and easy to ride, it is perfect for beginners and is a great place to pick up some speed. Outside the reef, you’ll find some small waves. There are several windsurfing operators near the lagoon where you can rent gear and get lessons.
Take a Sharm el Sheikh windsurfing holiday and you’ll get year-round wind and year-round blue skies. The water is warm, the sand is soft….what are you waiting for? Sharm el Sheikh offers brilliant windsurfing, and just about anything else you might want from your holiday.
