Playa del Carmen is one of Mexico’s top holiday resorts. It is a glitzy, bustling place full of upmarket holidaymakers and hip bars. Lying on the Caribbean coast, it has fast become one of the country’s favourite places to be. But it’s not all about topping up the tan; in Playa del Carmen paragliding shows off the gorgeous landscapes that make it a great place to see from the air.
Playa del Carmen lies on a flat promontory, so opportunities for experienced paragliders to test themselves are fairly limited. But beginners and improvers can definitely have fun trying out tandem flights from the beach, or giving parasailing a go. Those who want some proper thermal action will have to travel just a little further afield to get their fix.
There is a popular take-off site a couple of hours drive away at Campeche. At this coastal site, you can take off from small coastal ridges, fly over the green countryside with the ocean at your side, and land just off the beach.
If you have the time, see if you can fit in a detour to some of Mexico’s world-famous paragliding sites. Fly to Mexico City and visit the Valle Bravo, where you’ll find perfect atmospheric conditions and some superb mountain flying over rocky peaks, ridges and lakes. The area is usually flyable for around 5 hours a day, meaning you’ll have plenty of time to get in the air. There’s some great cross country flying to be had in the area, with many heading there just for that.
Take a Playa del Carmen paragliding holiday and you’ll get to see some of the world’s best views, lies on some of its most exclusive beaches and have the chance to make your way to some of the world’s most popular paragliding destinations. What’s not to like about that?
