Gibraltar offers plenty to both beginner and experienced sailors. There are many sailing schools and yacht hire firms operating around the Rock. If you’d rather relax than take on sailing the boat yourself, you’ll find a good choice of crewed charters and yacht cruises beginning and ending their journeys in Gibraltar’s waters.

Gibraltar’s popularity can mean that journeys through the Straits of Gibraltar and challenging. Tides and strong currents can also make things difficult for sailors. If you’re after calm waters and easy sailing, head east into the Mediterranean: Gibraltar makes a great starting point for a journey around the Mediterranean. There are plenty of seductive-sounding itineraries to get stuck into: take in Cartagena, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Naples…

Or head west and explore the exotic, and often challenging, African coast. Tangier, Casablanca, Lagos and beyond await. It’s possible to get to Tangier in a day, making Gibraltar a great destination for those who want to experience another culture without making a long journey.
