A Fiji Kitesurfing trip is one which will take you to some of the remotest spots you will ever kitesurf. Found amongst the South Pacific Islands you will be amongst a nation of people who have grown up with water as part of their lives.
The main and probably the best spots are small remote islands just off the west coast of the main island of Fiji. Namotu Island, Nananu I Ra and Malolo to name a few. Here you will find superb crystal clear waters which are protected by the reefs.
Between the reef and the land you will have flat water which is good for intermediate riders. On the reefs you will find waves which can be anything from waist high to double overhead walls of water. You will be able to find a break which suits your level of riding though.
The best time to take a Fiji Kitesurfing holiday is in the southern hemisphere’s winter season, which runs from June through to September when the trade winds blow consistently at speeds of 17 – 27mph. You will still get good weather and winds in other months but it is not as consistent. A 10m kite will be your most used but take a size either side of this to make the most out of the conditions.
The weather is ideal with both water and air temperatures remaining consistent throughout the year at about 24 degrees. So only pack some board shorts and a rash vest to protect you from the sun.
Arrival will be to the main Fijian airport of Nadi. Most of the smaller island resorts such as Namotu Island will arrange transfers from the airport to your final location. The resorts are aimed at couples so if there is no wind then there is plenty to do. Swim and snorkel directly off your resorts beach and you will find some exotic fish and corals. Most locations will also offer deep water fishing trips to catch your dinner.
