My Heli-Skiing Experience

My journey began when the heliskiing industry was still young in 1991. As the industry grew so did my knowledge, all thanks to the operators.

Having the opportunity to visit and experience multiple operators gave me a different perspective. It was not about what was the best, it was about what worked the best for me!

I realised that everybody’s best is different. It can be graded on ability, personal schedule and whether you are travelling individually or as part of a group. Every remote heli-ski lodge is different welcoming from 12 to 36 guests and suiting different personality and dynamics.

Multi-day heli ski/board holidays typically run for three to seven days. These include accommodation, meals, skis/snowboards, guide services, safety equipment, transfers (from closest airport) and use of all lodge amenities.

Multi-day operators design their packages with vertical in mind. It is either a guaranteed vertical based on number of days or unlimited vertical.

When to go Heliskiing and Heliboarding in Canada?

February is known industry-wide for its reliable heli-skiing conditions in British Columbia. However, January brings cooler temperatures, which often means lighter, drier powder—ideal for those seeking deep, fluffy turns.

By March, the days are longer, giving you more daylight and the best of both worlds. Spring storm cycles often bring fresh powder, followed by stretches of sunny bluebird skies.

The operators in the north of BC start the season in mid to late December and run until mid to late April. The remainder, will start early January to end of March with a couple exceptions.

So when is the best time to go on a British Columbia heliskiing or heliboarding adventure?” The answer is ANYTIME in the winter!
