We specialise in working on sessions with small groups so there is an excellent student to instructor ratio and that guarantees more 1:1 coaching. If you are looking to surf for the first time or even to improve your technique with a surf lesson then OA Surf Club is the perfect place to learn, whether you are on your own, in a family or in a group. We are a Surfing England Accredited Surf School.

Our friendly and experienced team are fun and enthusiastic and are dedicated in giving you the best experience in the water. They are superb at coaching beginners or if you have surfed before and you want to work on your technique.

If you are comfortable catching waves and are looking to progress your skills then we can tailor our sessions to accommodate you or for the best experience you can book a private session with one of our instructors

What to expect

We meet at the OA surf club beach base which is in Widemouth Bay car park (EX23 0AH) Our trailers are opposite the lifeguard hut in the middle of the car park. We will have some flags and banners up so you can spot us easily.

You will be met by your surf coach who will get you kitted out in your wetsuit ready to hit the surf. Your surf lesson will be 2 hours long and the surf coach will run through how to carry your board into the water and catch some waves lying down, then its time to hit the surf and practice catching a wave, once you’ve mastered that then its time to head back into the beach to run through how to stand up on your surfboard.

For the rest of the session it is then back into the surf and you have time to practice standing up under the surf coaches close guidance.

There is a group ratio of 1:8 so the surf coach has plenty of time with each student and can give plenty of feedback and coaching tips.
