Half-day low-mountain hike in Grindelwald, Switzerland, itinerary:
Although the distance seems quite long, the trail itself is rather flat, and for most of the hike we will be going downhill rather than uphill.
At the starting point of the hike, we enjoy a view of the high glacier (Oberer Gletscher) and famous mountains of Grindelwald: Wetterhorn (3692m) and Eiger (3970m). We start the hike uphill by passing the emerald-green valleys, where cows lazily graze grass (spring and early summer), see famous Swiss chalets and enjoy the magic energy of the mountains. We pass few mountain streams and trek through the forest, which gives a welcoming shade on a hot summer day. If the season is right, we will be able to pick blueberries, raspberries or wild strawberries.
Afterwards, we arrive to what used to be a restaurant, but now serves as a viewing platform, offering a chance to see the village of Grindelwald from the other side: Kleine Scheidegg, Lauberhorn and Männlichen. Also, we visit a small well-hidden viewing point in the forest, overlooking the valley in the direction of the town of Interlaken.
Then we take a downhill path to the waterfall, where we can enjoy the sound of the water and admire other mountains: Mönch(4107m) and Jungfrau (4158m). From there, our trail takes us down to the center of the Grindelwald village where we finish our hike.
It is possible to plan a shorter route, if requested.
