With over 30 Grade 2 (easy) rapids, rafting on the Rangitikei River on the 13 km scenic section downstream from River Valley Lodge makes a great day trip for families and friends. This gentle section of the river is suitable for all ages. For those looking for a bit more action we can also take inflatable kayaks along, as well as rafts. Along the way there are plenty of spots to stop for a swim.
A Stunning Canyon with a Picnic Lunch.
On the way down, immense cliffs cradle the river canyon. It is in one of these sections that we stop and have a picnic lunch. From there it is a relaxing float out to the take out, followed by a scenic drive back to River Valley Lodge.
Arrive at River Valley lodge, in time for a 9.30 briefing of your rafting on the Rangitikei River adventure. Your guide will give you a quick overview of the day and then get you kitted out in your equipment. Then, head down to the river for a quick safety briefing and then you're off.
You will be on the river until around 3pm, stopping for a picnic lunch along the way. You will see some spectacular scenery as you float down - waterfalls, immense papa cliffs, canyons and native bush.
When you reach Tarata Fishaway your dry clothes will be waiting for you. You can get changed and then will be picked up and driven back to River Valley.
