This 4.5km walking tour (3 miles) is one of the most beautiful in São Miguel Island of Azores. Travel to a waterfall from the quaint Faial da Terra village.
Faial da Terra is a small village belonging to Povoação, located in the South East of São Miguel island. This trip will lead you to a hidden gem which is the waterfall known as Salto do Prego.
If you had to choose one walking tour, this would be the one. Indeed, during this activity, you will see incredible natural sights like the amazing waterfall where you can take a dip if you don’t mind the cold. During our walk it will be possible to pass through Aldeia do Sanguinho – In this old village, being restored, you will find typical houses, small farms and several samples of Buckthorn (Frangula azorica), endemic specie of the Azores that gives name to this place.
From Ponta Delgada, Azores, we will pick you up and take you to the Eastern end of São Miguel island to go on this amazing adventure!
On the way we stop at Povoação, the first village to be populated on the island. Our walk starts on a steep narrow road that leads us to Sanguinho – a village that has been abandoned since the early 70’s and is now being restored.
The rest of the trail is in the woods, with a lot of short up and downhill stretches between very dense and beautiful vegetation. This is really a walk in which you can feel all the green nature around you!
Upon reaching Salto do Prego waterfall, we will have the opportunity to go for a dip before having a light meal. On the way back, we will follow a different trail but with the same characteristics. When we finish the trail, we will have time to relax and for some free time to drink something fresh and sometimes to mingle with locals.
