Glover’s Reef is so special because of the comprehensive management program by both the fisheries department and Wild Life Conservation Society to have enacted the no take zone within one third of the Atoll and issuing a limited number of fishing license to the local fishermen who have fished these waters for more than 50 years.
Glover’s Reef Atoll with only five coconut studded island inside an 80 sq. mile lagoon has been able to sustain a very healthy marine environment, we hope others in the region will be able to follow and retain the fish population in these protected areas.
The balance of tourism and local commercial fishermen co-existing in an environment which benefits the majority is not easily developed but with long term benefits to the survival of the fish population especially the export market variety is crucial to the survival of the atolls long term goals.
