You’ll spend up to nine hours a day on your feet, climbing up to 1,100 metres a day. The tour starts in Courmayeur, Italy and finishes in Les Houches, France. You’ll spend four days on the trail with three nights’ accommodation in mountain refuges included.

A 30-litre rucksack is usually big enough. You’ll need to bring waterproofs, a warm jacket, base layers and long sleeve tops. Some people prefer to walk in shorts, and this is generally possible, but it’s advisable to bring trousers too.

Underwear and socks for four days are required, as is a sleeping bag liner and travel towel. Required accessories include sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, as well as any toiletries and medication you require.
