A two-day intermediate navigation course in the French Alps to improve skills and confidence beyond the paths.
Join us on this French Alps Two-Day Intermediate Navigation Course
Improve your navigation over two days in the spectacular surroundings of the French Alps, and gain an NNAS accredited Silver Navigator Award.
Building on the content of the Bronze course, we will introduce more advanced map and compass skills in simple steps. At each stage, the aim is to demystify the process of map reading.
The course covers contour interpretation, advanced compass techniques, using the map in poor visibility and navigating away from marked paths. On the theory side, we will cover route-planning, timings, safety in the mountains and relevant legislation.
At the end of the course, you will be confident using a range of maps in moderately complex terrain. You will have the ability to navigate safely both on and off marked footpaths.
We have courses scheduled in Chamonix this summer, and run them elsewhere in the French Alps on request.
