Four Peaks High Country Track

4 day/ night Walk or Mountain Bike ride over an historic sheep & cattle Station, 2 hours from Christchurch, New Zealand

Four Peaks High Country Track is a 50 kilometre walking or mountain biking circuit, over untouched tussock and alpine terrain of the Four Peaks range, following well-defined sheep, riverbed and four-wheel drive tracks. It takes in some of the regions defining landmarks, one being Devil’s Peak that forms the backdrop to Lake Opuha.

The walk or bike ride over 4 days includes 4 nights in original shepherds’ huts that have been upgraded to ensure a comfortable break at the end of a day’s tramping or biking. The huts are fully equipped with gas cooking facilities, flush toilets and … hot showers! All the huts, steeped in charm and history of yesteryear, are situated alongside freshwater streams, in a tranquil mountain environment.

The Track is open from November to April, and bookings can be in groups of up to 10 people. As walkers or mountain bikers your packs are transported to the huts, so you just carry a small daypack with lunch and wet weather gear, a very pleasurable way to walk or bike and enjoy your surrounds.

The Walk and Mountain Bike ride include panoramic views, and allows you to taste the essence and history of the Fairlie-Geraldine area.

Four Peaks High Country Track offers a great opportunity to discover South Canterbury’s unspoiled high country environment. A ‘must do’ New Zealand outdoor experience!
