Looking for a challenging New Zealand backcountry adventure? With Aspiring Guides you are in the right place!
Since 1990, Aspiring Guides has been guiding in the spectacular New Zealand Southern Alps and beyond. Guided ascents of Mt Cook & Mt Aspiring, Instructional Courses, Rock Climbing, Ski Touring, Ice Climbing, Hiking and multi-day Trekking.
Take the road less travelled. We guide only small groups (max 5) on our New Zealand trekking adventures. Let us take you on a true NZ wilderness trek – where no one else can. From seriously tough multi-day alpine treks to easier, family-orientated hiking and camping, we provide a true wilderness experience.
The wild and remote nature of New Zealand’s landscape and weather means that, for most people, backcountry travel is limited to a few well established walking trails. While these popular tracks are often called “The Great Walks” they are not the best walks – just the popular ones!Based out of Wanaka and Queenstown, our Treks explore the lesser travelled corners of the Mt Aspiring National Park and the South West World Heritage Area – where the scenery is always spectacular, and the challenges many.
We take pride in delivering a trip that meets your needs. From ascents of NZ’s most challenging peaks to personalized instruction, we understand that all clients are different. Our friendly staff and guides will go the extra mile to deliver the best possible experience. Whether you’re a beginner climber looking to progress your skills or an experienced mountaineer with your sights on Mt Aspiring or Aoraki/Mt Cook, we’ll help you get there.
Backcountry Skiing and Splitboarding:
Located at the foot of the Southern Alps, Wanaka provides outstanding access and facilities to create a fantastic winter ski touring & backcountry snowboarding holiday.
With a choice of private backcountry huts, Aspiring Guides can provide a multi-day ski touring experience that you will never forget. And don’t forget glacier ski touring! The ski mountaineering in New Zealand is famous the world over. We have the luxury of being able to access the vast Glaciers of the Westland National Park as well as the eastern Tasman Glacier and its tributaries.
