Because scootering is easy to pick up it is far more accessible than skateboarding. Young kids start out with three or four wheeled scooters that have more stability. From there they move to two wheels and eventually into the skate parks to learn tricks.
While it is popular with kids scootering is also a great form of transport. They are easier to ride and much cheaper than bikes. Plus they are easier to store or take on public transport. Electric scooters have been a big hit with people in cities who want to get around.
Off-road scootering is similar to mountain biking. Some ski resorts let scooters use the chairlifts in the summer so you can ride downhill scooters on the mountain bike trails. In the winter there are also snow scooters that have ski blades to slide on snow.
