Funcos are the traditional houses of Chã das Caldeiras. They have a circular shape and the facade is made of volcanic stone. In the EcoFunco version, each bedroom has its own private bathroom with hot water.
In an ecological concern, the furniture is made of pallets. Rainwater is captured to supply the well and the water used is recycled and reused to water the plants and to flush the toilets. Electricity comes from solar panels and we have water heated by a solar water heater. Unlimited WiFi is also available for guests.
Located at the foot of the volcano, EcoFunco is the ideal place to discover Chã das Caldeiras and the starting point for hikes (ascent of the volcano, via ferrata, descent to Mosteiros, trekking in the Bordeira).

EcoFunco is based in Chã das Caldeiras, in Fogo Island, in the village that was destroyed by the last eruption in 2014-2015.
It's the best place to start any hike from the Natural Park of Fogo. Here you can do : the Pico do Fogo (the summit of Cabo Verde), the Pico Pequeno (where the two last eruptions came from), a Via Ferrata, the descent to Mosteiros (where you can cross the coffee fields) or also some smaller hikes to some tube of lava.
In Chã das Caldeiras, you could also have a wine tasting from the grapes that grow in the lava.
