Situated in a quieter location on a private road, the Megeve ski chalet in France is ideal for skiers with it’s superb location just 150m from the Rochebrune cable car which takes you straight into the vast ski area of Megeve, so you can be straight on the slopes. Yet still only a few minutes walk to the heart of the iconic French alpine resort of Megeve, where the village centre oozes French charm, with it’s unique ambience, open air ice rink, horse-drawn sleighs and cobbled streets.
The 15 bedrooms are comfortable, simple and homely, decorated in the traditional Savoyard manner. Each cosy room has an ensuite bath or shower room. Downstairs you can relax in front of the log fire in the attractive and spacious lounge area and have a pre-dinner drink and appetisers at the bar.
The resident professional chef will spoil you daily with a hearty breakfast of croissants, porridge, eggs, fresh fruit, yoghurts and pain au chocolat, 3 course evening meal cooked to a high standard with wine, and freshly baked cakes, tea and coffee on your return. After a quick pre-dinner drink around the blazing open fire in the lounge area at the chalet’s own bar, where we serve reasonably priced drinks, join the other guests at the chalet for a sociable evening ahead. There is a small TV room downstairs, equipped with English satellite TV (free to view channels), video player and board games. A perfect den for the children!
There is a private car park at the front of this Megeve ski chalet in France, which is free of charge to our guests.
The most charming ski resort in France
The traditional Savoyard town of Megève is still occupied by many of the original families such as the Perinets and Grossets yet has all the amenities of a modern ski resort. The centre of Megève is pedestrianised around a beautiful 13th century church, with cobbled narrow streets to explore offering a great variety of high end boutiques, delicatessens, bars and restaurants.
Megève has been a hidden gem for the French, however more overseas visitors are starting to discover its charms and fall in love with the ski resort! There are no huge hotels and the resort does not cater for the mass market.
Extensive ski area
The Megève ski area is one of the largest in France, with a variety of ski runs to suit all abilities from hard core powder hounds at Mont Joly or Cote 2000 to picturesque long blue and red runs through the snow laden trees (see the skiing) all with amazing views of Mont Blanc to admire. There are plenty of mountain restaurants (see price guides) to ease tired legs and sip a vin chaud.
...and one of the best resorts if you don't ski
Megève is also great for non-skiers. There is a special 'walkers' lift pass to allow you to meet the skiers in your party for lunch. There are marked paths on the mountain for walking, an outdoor and indoor skating rink and a well-equipped leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, sauna, tennis courts and climbing wall. For those of you who enjoy a little pampering there are a range of spas and beauty clinics. For further information download our guide for non-skiers. For those interested in architecture, the original chalet was designed here by Henri Le Meme, who lived and worked in Megève for 30 years and built more that 40 chalets
