Among climbers, Mallorca is known as a mecca for Deep Water Solo climbing. It is without a doubt the top destination in the world to enjoy this pure style of climbing. Every October Rockbusters hosts this Deep water solo climbing holiday in Mallorca to share their psych for Spain DWS.

The best conditions are in October and early November as the sun stays low in the sky and dries the moisture out of the coastal caves. The temperature isn’t too hot or cold at this time, and the sea is still warm from the hot summer months. In recent years loads of new crags have been bolted on the island, and on overcast or cooler days we will spend our time exploring these lesser known sport-climbing areas, making for a really varied and exciting tour.

Climbing isn’t the only thing that makes people fall in love with this trip; Mallorca also offers breathtaking scenery. You’ll spend your week hanging from cliffs rising up from the turquoise-blue water of the Mediterranean, hiking through secluded beaches and coves, relaxing between climbs amongst the pine trees, and sharing well-earned beers on the beach at local chiringuitos.

Deep water soloing (DWS) is known in Spanish as psicobloc, which directly translates to “psycho-bouldering”. It involves climbing cliffs with no rope, but with the warm, blue waters of the Mediterranean ready to catch your fall.

Majorca, the birthplace of hard DWS, was made famous as a world-class climbing destination by Chris Sharma. In 2007, he ascended the iconic Es Pontas arch, putting up a “king line” potentially as hard as 9a+/b. Since then, climbers from all over the globe have made their pilgrimage to the Majorcan cliffs to test their endurance and their mettle!

The limestone cliffs offer test pieces for every level. So during this Mallorca deep water solo climbing holiday you can start with easier grades (5+) and low heights.

Deep-water soloing can be a little intimidating at first, but with the help and instruction of our experienced guides, you will quickly gain confidence and get to fully enjoy this beautiful, pure style of climbing. The Deep water solo climbing holiday in Mallorca is all about new experiences, adventure and simply having fun in the great outdoors, but with Rockbusters coaching you might also surprise yourself with some hard sends!

Majorca also offers many world class sport climbing crags which have been bolted in recent years. They are worth visiting not only when the seas are rough so Spain DWS is off the menu! We will show you the best, secret locations, often not featured in any guidebooks.

With innumerable quality lines available on the coast and throughout the island, you will experience a great climbing adventure while constantly improving your technique and performance. You will immerse yourself in the local climbing culture and enjoy the famous, Rockbusters community spirit. Climbing with us is like climbing with friends – very resourceful, experienced friends, who have everything planned and focus on your Mallorca deep water solo climbing holiday!

What to expect

Typical day on a Deep water solo climbing holiday in Mallorca.

8 – 10 AM:
Wake up to the sounds of the local farm, have a relaxing breakfast, do some stretching or yoga, and maybe grab a refreshing dip in the campground’s pool. We will meet up at 10am to discuss the plan for the day so make sure you are ready to go!

10.30 AM:
All aboard! We pack into the van and head off to the crag. In Mallorca the coastal caves need some time in the sun to dry out, so leaving at this time helps to ensure better friction on the climbs.

11AM - 2PM:
Jump on some warm up climbs and start getting your body moving. On the first day you’ll learn how to fall safely into the water and what overhanging techniques you’ll need to succeed at Spain DWS.

2PM:
Lunchtime! Pull out your packed lunch and relax in the shade under aromatic pine trees with stunning views of the sea. This is also a good time to snap some photos.

2.30 - 6 PM:
Back to climbing. Using what you learned in the morning, and our individualized coaching, start projecting harder climbs. Depending on your success, you might be spending some time swimming in the sea!

6 - 7 PM:
Time to relax with a well-earned beer from one of the local beach bars. We will re-group, discuss the highlights from the day and what the focus will be tomorrow.

7 PM:
Take in the Mallorcan countryside or grab a quick nap on the way back to camp.

9 PM:
Pour yourself some Spanish wine and enjoy a Spanish-inspired meal prepared by a professional chef (optional €15). Every meal also includes an entree, salad, wine and dessert as well as a big helping of epic story swapping and fun. Who knows where the night will lead… Mañana más y mejor.
